METRO RAILWAY OBSERVES 74TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kolkata : Metro Railway celebrated 74th Independence Day today on 15.08.2020. Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway unfurled the National flag at Metro Rail Bhavan and inspected the parade of Metro RPF.

In his address to the Railway-men, their families and the media persons, the General Manager spoke about the achievements of Metro Railway in various sectors.

Metro Railway carried 20.41 crore passengers in 2019-20. Passenger earnings in the fiscal 2019-20 were Rs. 219.53 crore which is 8.85% higher than the previous fiscal.

The punctuality in 2019-20 was more than 99.59%.

Utilizing the opportunity of nationwide lockdown, Metro Railway authorities are working very hard to ensure maintenance of assets and improving safety, passenger amenities and reliability standards. Locations have been marked at platforms and stations for the waiting passengers for maintaining physical distance.  Automatic Sanitizer Dispensing Machines are being provided at the stations for the benefit of the commuters.

Metro Railway has already launched on-line Smart Card Recharge facility for its commuters and a user-friendly-mobile App has also been developed indigenously for on-line recharge of Metro smart cards.  Users will get information about train timings at various stations besides information about important historical and tourist places around different Metro stations from this App.

Commuters will have to download this App from Google Play Store (where this App will be available within a few days) and register. Useful information about different Metro stations, fares, expected travel time between stations, Metro Route Map will also be available in this App for commuters benefit.

Corporate houses/business establishments will be able to display their advertisements in this App. Important information about tenders of different departments will be available in this App too.

Metro RPF has successfully provided special security to the women and children.  They rescued 7 children and arranged to reunite with their family members or handed over to the local police stations.  RPF has also provided assistance to 25 ailing passengers.

Shri Joshi stressed upon ensuring more safety, security, punctuality and augmenting amenities for the passengers and also urged upon the Metro employees for more dedication in providing best services to the commuters.

Later Manoj Joshi, inaugurated Central Medical Gas Pipeline System (CMGPS) at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital.  This system helps to provide uninterrupted high flow, constraint free supply of oxygen which is very essential in the present scenario of COVID-19 pandemic.  This system is also very useful in the Operation Theatre where compressed dry air is required for ventilator support.  Shri Joshi also felicitated COVID warriors of this hospital.
